KitchenAid Model 4-C Mixer

10"x10" oil on canvas I love tools. I did a little painting of this back in late 2013 or early 2014 (don't expect me to remember the date—I have the memory retention of a donut) called, "KitchenAid Mixer That I Am On the Fence About Ever Painting Again." I believe the title originally had cuss words in it. Well, I was still on the fence when I was looking at this thing-that-weighs-a-ton taking up space in my studio, and I said to myself, "Myself, that thing needs to earn its keep—paint it again!" (The reason for the exclamation point is that I usually yell when talking to myself.) So, here it is a little bigger at 10"x10" and in a different pose.

Marble Taunts Cat

6"x4" oil on door skin panel ••• Yet another, "I spoiled them in oil paint because they were there." Not a great quote, but it is all I got for a Friday afternoon. Okay, now I feel guilty delivering such a weak quote, so here is one of my favorites: “I went into a general store. They wouldn’t let me buy anything specifically.” —Steven Wright. What, not deep enough for you? Here's another of his, "If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what happen if you strap toast on the back of a cat and drop it?"

Rocket Camera

6"x" oil on panel I had been meaning to paint this little camera for some time. Well, finally getting off my duff, I just grabbed a board and did it. The masonite board is 6"x6", which is an odd size for me, but hey, at least I got it done. In my ever shrinking mind, I had envisioned doing this bigger and at a different angle, but this felt right at the time and who knows, I may still do a bigger piece. I think it was Titian who once said, "Sometimes you just have to slam it down and go for it." Or was it Mr. Rogers who said it? I can't remember (See above: "...ever shrinking mind...").

Soy Sauce in a Jar

6"x4" oil on RayMar panel This Kikkoman soy sauce bottle is roughly 2,000 years old. So, it wasn't a surprise when its cap finally cracked and gave way under constant Logan Family usage. Soy Sauce is life's blood itself in our household and this bottle was never allowed to be empty. It would be hard for me to steal and paint if it was not broken. I believe I succeeded once years ago and I have been looked upon with harsh suspicion ever since. I see that demonic, distrustful look in their eyes whenever I reach for the sacred bottle: "Don't you even think about stealing our soy sauce!" Seeing as the bottle was so highly revered, it somehow seemed fitting to display it in another bottle—kind of like a museum display. So, without further ado, I now present to you... glass under glass.

My Ben Hur Hand Drill, A Bit Bigger

12"x6" oil on canvas I love tools. Hmm... Don't know what to say after such an underwhelming declaration. Oh, oh, I know. I will impart the only useful nugget of fatherly advice I have passed along to my offspring: "Don't laugh while eating lemon bars, the powdered sugar will kill you." Oh yeah, my font of wisdom ran dry after that one.

Skecher Boot

6"x4" oil on door skin panel To snobs like me, Skechers were fake boots. That is probably why it took me so long to finally come around and paint this one of mine. Why I purchased them in the first place is another mystery. The procurement took place decades ago when I had far more functioning brain cells than I do now and no offspring to distract me while making a purchasing decision, so blaming it on my youth or The Spawn seems a bit lame. So... Aliens took over my body! (Sorry, but it's all I got.) At the college I attended, there seemed to be an unwritten rule stating that the word "brown" was verboten. Anything even remotely brown was referred to as "warm gray." Whatever you call it, the base color of this boot is a playground for introducing color (Caveat: For a spaz like me). Below, please find the horrible easel shot of what I am currently working on. I will send you a better picture later. Charles Dickens' ghost will rise up and smite me, but I just had to do it. 10"x10" / oil / all knife work.

Boy Camera, The Bigger

12"x12" oil on canvas I like this camera so much I painted it twice. This is the bigger of the two at 12 inches square. I will be in the Beverly Hills Art Show next month. It looks like I will be located between Erin Hansen and Alla Tsank, both wonderful artists. I doubt I shall last the weekend.

Gazanias and Statice in a Bottle

6"x4" oil on door skin panel Something strange happened to my emails last week, I think they got stuck somewhere around Omaha. So, if you did not receive them or the text was in an Esperanto dialect particular to West Texas, I apologize. Please accept this bouquet as a sincere a token of my remorse for the inconvenience. The beautiful flowers that make up this petite bouquet were lovingly and zealously murdered by The Spousal Unit. By now, you would think I would know better than to talk to her whilst she is decimating our quivering flora. Invariably, she stops, gathers up some of her victims, arranges them a bit, and shoves them at me. (With all the grace in the world, of course.) No words are exchanged, but the meaning is clear: "Here, be a good boy, scamper off and paint these and leave me alone."
