1961 Metropolitan

4"x6" oil on raymar panel I have always loved these funky little cars. During an era when a "small" two door car was longer than many of today's minivans, these little cars with their bright colors seemed microscopic—like bathtubs on wheels.

  1. Our Junior High school had an office worker that drove a red and white Metropolitan. The office worker was always smiling as she exited the little car. I don't know the reason for the smile, but suspect it might have been the jaunty little car. In the early 60's, it was an unusual ride, and it never failed to make all the students stop and stare at it as she arrived.
