Seagull at Avila Pier

6"x4" oil on raymar panel. I almost forgot about this one. It was an overcast, gray day in Avila Beach and the rat-with-wings you see there on the rock, could not have been posed better. This has to be the grayest landscape/seascape that I have ever painted. Just look at the sky, it's barely a cool gray, let alone blue. Grays are wonderful, but the backbone of this piece is its composition; the water and the pier, that's Avila Pier there on the right, work as a frame or stage for the most undeserving seagull. You may sense a little animosity towards seagulls here. Let's just say it is based on an obviously intentional dive bombing incident that wouldn't come out in the wash and actually left a nasty bruise.
