White Cliffs of Santa Maria

4"x6" oil on raymar panel. Well, they aren't actually pure white, but it makes for a nice title and I have always wanted to paint them, especially when the fields above are green. Most of the year, those toupee-like fields are a beautiful California Rolling Hills Brown. The scrub in the foreground can drive an artist nuts. Just don't get caught up in details; slow down and patiently focus on the colors and values, then the beauty really comes forward and you won't need the psychiatric care. Win-win.
