4"x6" oil on board. This is an old barn located on the Kynsi Winery. Much of the land in this area has changed from family owned ranches to wineries. It would appear that many of the wineries keep the old barns, probably for their rustic appeal and possibly storage. For whatever reason, they are graceful in their own way and fun to paint. Some are abandoned and left to die slow, glorious deaths – starting out statuesque, then slowly rotting and collapsing into the field where they live. Over the course of many years, I watched just such a barn in south San Luis Obispo do just that. It was kind of like watching a Shakespearean tragedy – sad and beautiful at the same time.
