Tate's Marx Toy Truck
4"x6" oil on raymar panel. This subject is a loaner from a friend and was recently presented to you in the group painting "Subjects in Waiting." It seemed like a good time to give it a go, so here it is. I believe this to be a pre-war toy, that is stamped metal and hollow with no bottom, hence the odd lights in the shadows below the truck; the light passed right through the thing. Due to these mystic lights, I painted the shadow about 2,000 times—1,000 times with the mystic lights and 1,000 times with the shadow just being solid—before I just gave up and let the light shine on through. I now no longer have an opinion about the lights and just want to take a nap.
