Houston's Iquor Store

24"x36" oil on canvas. This is a larger version of one of my 4x6s I painted back in 2010. As proof of my commentarial laziness, please find the following commentary for that earlier painting.  • • •  "In a lame homage to my fellow painters Julian Merrow-Smith and Stephen Magsig (two daily painters I really like), I could have called today's and yesterday's paintings "Postcards from Buellton." The problem is that I really didn't pick two of the town's more beautiful spots to highlight — the town council may not be... amused. Granted, I found today's subject, with its missing "L" and freaky "Q" to be very interesting and a very challenging subject. Editing plays a huge role in rendering a complex subject like this. I opted to keep the little bit of neon sign in the left window, but dump the really obnoxious dude sitting on one of the benches who seemed to be communicating with me via interesting hand signals, that I will not repeat here. Must have been the mayor protesting my choice of subject matter. Have a great weekend!"
