Dexter No. 3

48"x48" oil on canvas. Sorry, but this is another one of those, "Did I show this to you before?" shots. If you've seen it before, your eyes have my sincerest sympathy. Right around the time I painted this piece, I also painted a 60" x 40" piece of three bottles, which I have yet to get a good shot of to torture you with. Shooting large pieces is a royal pain in the hoohah (e.g., I have to back up roughly three city blocks to counter the fish eye effect, etc.). At five feet, the bottle piece is the largest painting I have ever done (school day 75' pep rally posters don't count).

    1. Thanks Karen. It is still hanging over at the Sycamore Gallery if you want to see it in person.

  2. Do you have Photoshop? You can fix the fish-eye with Filter>Lens Correction.

    1. Thanks for the help, Marla. I have used PhotoShop since they created PhotoShop and, amazingly enough, I am only twelve years of age. Based on the experience of a 'seasoned' art director/designer, I usually go to the Lens Correction filter as a last resort, if I am going for an accurate, archival quality shot. It modifies (pinches) the image at different percentages across the face of the image. (And now the snob artist contradicts himself...) But, if it is for posting a painting online (99.99% of what you and I do), it is a very handy filter indeed, and I have used it many times. Thanks again for the great suggestion.

    2. Most of my paintings are small enough to scan on a flat bed scanner. I know some artists shoot all their paintings with a camera, even the small ones. I feel like that's only practical if I can set up a semi-permanent copystand arrangement, and who has time/space for that?

I forgot about your art director background. I have also used PS since its inception, and I am only ELEVEN years old.

  4. Do you ever offer prints, in this case a smaller print, of your work?
