Blue House

16"x20" oil on canvas. The little version of this worked so well, that I thought I would take a shot at it in a larger format. This a 16" x 20" canvas, which is not only larger than its 4" x 6" predecessor, but has different proportions — it's taller. This just meant more sky and foreground. I was initially going to use a #12 brush on this, but decided to back off to a #10. Considering the details in the house, I think it was a good decision. The lines representing the plank siding on the house are not painted, but carved with the end of the brush. Carving is fun — wood, paint, cake, whatever.

About yesterday's painting: Wow, I received a lot of comments about yesterday's painting of the Safari Inn sign. First off, I would like to say thank you to all who wrote expressing how much they liked it. I thought I would answer the most commonly asked question: Where is it? That motel or hotel or whatever it is, is located in beautiful Burbank, California. I meant to mention its locale in my commentary.
