14"x11" oil on canvas. This quiet painting's survival is dependent on its values and temperatures. There are not many extreme value shifts, so temperature plays an even bigger role in its definition. The background above the bowl and the seat surface are very close in value, what differentiates them is the seat being cool and the background warm. Without that temperature shift, the seat would appear almost transparent.

Reference: Roger Fry (1866-1934) was a critic and artist who belonged to the Bloomsbury group. He was also the driving force behind and director of the Omega Workshops.
