Coffee Maker

14"x11" oil on canvas. This is a bit larger painting that I did in Anne Saitzyk's wonderful workshop. I had never seen a coffee maker like this one. It has a flip lid and a tall cylindrical insert that you place the grinds in. The coffee filters through drain holes at the bottom of the insert. The plain brown surface provided a heck of a challenge; it just appeared flat with almost no variation. After studying it, I found that it had light from its surroundings bouncing all over it and, of course, I pushed it a bit.
