6"x4" oil on gessoed door skin. There is a Stickley mantle clock in my studio and this is its chrome plated key. It exists, so I painted it. You think of chrome as shiny and bright, but at this angle the flat part of this key appeared to be neither. It was medium toned and seemed flat, reflecting little. The shaft, on the other hand, had all sorts of wicked things happening on it.
I painted the key and got the shaft (hopefully).
