Boy Scout Knife

6"x4" oil on board. Kinda old, yet extremely handy – the Boy Scout knife. This knife traveled all over the painting before settling into this position. This pose brought on great shadows and cast reflected light that actually play important roles in the balance of the composition. You would think the knife blade would be the star, but its subtle tones and reflections actually make it a simple co-star amongst the rest of the players. It's defined more by color than value. As the great Anne Saitzyk once said (a lot), "It's all about relationships (and your values better be on!)." By the way, that may not be an accurate quote, but it captures the gist.
