Lemon and Mug
4"x6" oil on door skin. Yellow poses some painting problems/challenges. It is such a weak pigment that I had to do my initial drawing of this in yellow and build on that. Normally, I sketch my paintings with something in the family of ultramarine. You might occasionally notice blue peeking through some of my paintings — that might be the drawing or underpainting making its presence known. If there was ultramarine under this lemon, the yellow wouldn't of stood a chance. This was going to be a painting of just the coffee shop mug, but the lemon just showed up and kind of stole the show.
