Light Bulb

6"x4" oil on gessoed door skin. Shiny white objects can be a heck of a challenge. Everything is going along fine until you encounter a highlight. What do you use for a highlight on a white object? Well, pure white of course. But you've gone so far into whiteland that pure white barely shows up. It's at that point you realize the object has fooled you and you've lost control of your values. If the values go, you're shot and white objects provide a great value study. I almost painted this with a limited palette, but just couldn't do it: the subtle colors dancing on and through the bulb were just too tempting.
